Job Creation
The fireworks trade employs thousands of people fulltime throughout the United States all year long. Over 90% of those jobs are created through small independent businesses that contribute to the community through charity, taxes and volunteerism. Thousands more are employed on a seasonal basis, usually high school students, college students, teachers and others that enjoy fireworks or want summer employment. Most of the time, these jobs are created in smaller, rural communities which benefit the most from local businesses and their tax contributions.
We all know the devastation of job loss to our society and the ripple effect it can cause. It is even more dreadful when it's avoidable and unnecessary.
Charitable Organizations
If you've ever shopped for fireworks in a tent or roadside stand, chances are you've seen or been in one run by a charity or church group. Fireworks are a great way to raise money for an organization. Boy Scouts, churches, schools and city governments use seasonal fireworks locations to help them meet their fund raising goals. It would be a shame to cut off a profitable revenue stream for charities.
Patriotism
As we've stated, Patriotism is a major element in the fireworks trade. Almost every show put together, every item created and every item sold is meant to celebrate our Independence Day. Most Americans have some recollection or fond memory of watching fireworks on a warm summer night with their family and friends. Having the 4th of July without fireworks is like Halloween without pumpkins. Fireworks are ingrained in our national psyche, they are part of who we are and how we celebrate.
"The day will be the most memorable in America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival...it ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade...bonfires and illuminations (fireworks) from one end of this continent to the other, from this day forward, forevermore."
John Adams, in a letter to his wife after the Continental Congress decided to proclaim the American colonies independent from Britain.
Fun
If the previous reasons weren't enough, fireworks are fun. They are enjoyable to light and enjoyable to watch. They add unique flair to festivities and can inspire deep emotions.
